According to the press conference of the National Energy Administration held recently, as of the end of 2017, China’s installed renewable power capacity had reached 650 million KWH, up 14% on a year-on-year basis, of which the installed capacity of hydropower, wind power, PV power generation and biomass power generation grew by 2.7%, 10.5%, 68.7% and 22.6% on a year-on-year basis, respectively. The installed renewable power capacity accounted for 36.6% of the entire installed power capacity, up 2.1 percentage points on a year-on-year basis, indicating renewable energy is playing an increasingly bigger role as alternative clean energy.

The renewable energy utilization level has been constantly increased. In 2017, China’s renewable power output reached 1.7 trillions KWH, accounting for 26.4% of the total power output of the country. The hydraulic energy utilization ratio reached about 96%; and the wind curtailment rate was 12%, down 5.2 percentage points on a year-on-year basis; the solar curtailment rate was 6%, down 4.3 percentage points on a year-on-year basis. “The situation of most regions with high wind energy curtailment and severe limitation of electricity supply has improved, specifically, the reduction of wind energy curtailment rate of Gansu exceeded 10 percentage points, that of Jilin, Xinjiang, Ningxia, Inner Mongolia and Liaoning exceeded 5 percentage points, and that of Heilongjiang approached 5 percentage points,” said Liang Zhipeng, Vice Director General of the New and Renewable Energy Department of the National Energy Administration.
